Her Truism No. 2

Date

April 2024

Medium

oil paint and etched acrylic sheets on wood panel

Dimensions

20"x22"

Being a woman who has always had a curvaceous body type since she was a young child, Pradera emphasizes that all body shapes are deserving of love. Pradera's fuller figure caused her to be perceived, treated, and informed that one of her "problems" in the dating scene was her physical appearance. Drawing on her unsatisfactory dating experiences as a result of her body not being deemed attractive or acceptable by society, and particularly her generation's ideals of beauty, she created this painting in hopes of challenging that idea and highlighting the true beauty of fuller female body types. Nobody should be denied the opportunity to experience love just because they have stretchmarks, back rolls, or don't have a "thigh gap." Love is something that all humans yearn for and deserve, no matter the number on the back of a pair of jeans.
